Green Building Guidelines: Meeting the Demand for Low-Energy, Resource-Efficient Homes was developed by a committee of builders (both members and non-members of NAHB), architects, building scientists, product manufacturers and others over a 2½ year period (1998-2001). Their work was supported by DOE's Building America Program through the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The manual is published by the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council and is used in a workshop or seminar setting, or as a stand-alone document.

The Environmental Brief: Pathways For Green Design : read more

The built environment is responsible for an estimated 45% of all green house gas emissions. It is during the design process where decisions are made and which can have the greatest influence on the reduction of the impact of the built environment. The architectural brief is seen by architects as the most crucial part of the entire design process in terms of achieving high quality buildings. Environmental design strategies are often considered as being of lesser importance.
