Eco-Friendly Clothing Site to Assess Carbon Footprint for Entire Company

Eco Friendly Clothingsite FashionandEarth.com submits to independent carbon footprint analysis in efforts to establish baseline working toward zero impact.

September 1, 2008 - Eco-friendly clothing site FashionandEarth.com announced today it is submitting its entire operation from products to supply chains for independent evaluation of its carbon footprint. This initial assessment of the green clothingretailer will provide a quantitative measure to serve as a baseline for improvements in the eco-friendly clothing site’s efforts to become a zero impact corporation.

Despite the growth of eco friendly clothingand mass retailers promoting green clothing lines, there remains a lack of industry standards and accountability when it comes to assessing a company’s impact on the environment. Fashion & Earth is striving to become a zero impact corporation, which necessitates a quantifiable, peer reviewable, standardized and unbiased method of measuring related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as a starting point for the eco-friendly clothing site.

“As a green clothing retailer we’re very serious about our role as stewards of the environment,” says Adrian Desbarats, president of Fashion & Earth. “We not only provide environmentally friendly clothing to consumers but we are also doing everything we can as a corporation to reduce our footprint. It’s my belief that any company serious about reducing its environmental impact must scientifically measure effects at all points within its organization. Without quantifiable third-party analysis, any attempts at reducing impact would be too subjective.”

The carbon footprint assessment will be conducted by independent environmental performance evaluator CleanMetrics Corp. using life cycle analysis (LCA) and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The eco friendly clothingretailer plans to submit to yearly evaluations to measure the success of its ongoing efforts to become a zero impact corporation.
