On January 27th, 2008 Lauren says:
I ordered this product because I saw samples and loved
the grain. After 4 weeks, I called to ask where the
flooring was and was told it takes 4 weeks from
manufacture and that it would be a few more weeks. I
called back two weeks later and was told that the
floor was mistakenly delivered to Louisiana (huh?).
When it finally arrived, I discovered the beautiful
“grain” was actually a VERY thin veneer glued to
regular “bulletin board” cork. I didn’t find anything
on the website that would indicate this, and samples
were conveniently backed with foam, so I couldn’t
tell. I purchased cork flooring partially because it
can be refinished like wood. This “grain”, however,
will not survive a sanding.
My installer told me after laying down three rows of
planks that the glue (recommended and sold by Globus,
of course) was not holding and he was worried.
(Contractor is a long-time friend.) I contacted the
company and was told the floor must have been dirty
(it wasn’t), or that the installation wasn’t being
done right (even though we followed the instructions
to the letter). The contact cement sent by the company
was gritty and runny (after stirring, etc, all the
things they told us we were supposed to do) and was
not holding. SPECIFICALLY, the seams were curling up.
I went back and forth with “Ken” the “technical guy”,
and was told they can’t understand what was wrong
because their glue was “bombproof”. Then Ken told me
he was trying to arrange to have someone familiar with
their product come to inspect. Of course, I never
heard back. When I called back he got snippy with me.
They kept telling me the floor must have been dirty,
but there’s no way that 180 square feet of flooring
got dirty around the edges as it sat in a closed box.
Not only that, I was short and had to order more, and
had THE SAME PROBLEM! (Yes, I did allow it to
acclimate.) The floor looks terrible and still bumps
up at the seams, the product is poor and tears easily
and their customer service stinks. Do yourself a
favor, buy locally with trustworthy retailers and DO
NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!
