Readers Trash Dumping of State Holiday Tree Lights
Posted October 1st, 2007 by filkertus
In the midst of a $1.75 billion dollar budget crisis, John Schneider of the Lansing State Journal highlights one example of the wasteful and environmentally irresponsible practices of the State of Michigan.
Each year the State of Michigan spends about $2000 on Christmas lights for its holiday tree and spends about $3000 in electricity to keep it lit. This year the state was offered an opportunity to exchange its inefficient lights for LED Christmas lights. The State did not accept the offer and taxpayers berated the government in the local papers about their wasteful practices.
