—Greenhouse will serve as site for donation collections starting April 26 and tree distributions starting May 1 at numerous locations through NYC—

NYC & Company and the financial institution BNP Paribas (BNPP) takes its mobile MillionTreesNYC Greenhouse on the road, stopping at Union Square on April 26, where experts will educate the public on the necessity of trees in urban areas, as well as give people the opportunity to donate to the program. Equipped with online donation platforms, the Greenhouse will allow the public to donate funds for tree plantings in support of the Mayor’s goal to plant one million trees throughout New York City by 2017, a plan designated as MillionTreesNYC. BNP Paribas is bringing the Greenhouse to NYC as part of its official sponsorship of MillionTreesNYC Month. The Greenhouse will be at Union Square beginning on April 26 from 9am to 6pm.

The BNP mobile Greenhouse will stay in Union Square until April 29, and then make its way around the City. Beginning in May, the Greenhouse will then travel throughout the five boroughs to distribute more than 1,200 trees to homeowners and families in designated “Trees for Public Health Neighborhoods.”

The “Trees for Public Health Neighborhoods” have been identified by the Parks Department as those in greatest need because they have fewer than average street trees and higher than average rates of asthma among young people. Additional trees in these neighborhoods have the potential to reduce the pollutants that trigger respiratory disorders, and contribute to healthier living standards.

MillionTreesNYC is a public-private partnership between the Department of Parks & Recreation and Bette Midler’s New York Restoration Project (NYRP) through which one million new trees will be planted and cared for throughout the five boroughs by 2017. April marks the first anniversary of the program, which has already been successful in planting more than 54,000 trees in year one.
